Discussion 35: Read Pastor Cha's sermon (12-21-14), the sermon by Ray Stedman (Gospel of Luke), and today's devotion (12-28-14).

In today"s sermon, "The Good News Of Great Joy", according to the section "Intro": Where did the term "Christmas" originate from? What are some possible reasons for it being celebrated on December 25th? What is the mystery of Jesus' birth?

In the section "And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, ... But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid ...'": Why did the angel appear to shepherds?(see various Bible verses mentioned) Who does John 10:10-12 say Jesus is? According to 2 Corinthians 4:4, why has God blinded the minds of unbelievers? What is self-idol worship? How can we be a "good shepherd"?

How are we like sheep? How is the character of a goat quite different from that of a lamb? Why does God only reveal Himself to those who have the heart of a shepherd? What does the blood of Abel represent? (or "speaks better": see Hebrews 12:24)

In the section "The Good News of Great Joy": What do Matthew 10:34 and 1 John 3:7-8 say about the reason for the coming of Christ? How will our great joy for Jesus' birth be more realistic?

In the section "Today in the town of David ... You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." In Isaiah 1:3, how is Israel compared to the ox and the donkey? What does the word "manger" mean in Hebrew, and what does it's sign mean?

In the section "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.": When are we granted true glory to God, and when is God truly glorified in our lives? When do we experience the true "peace" that comes from heaven, and what is the true life of living in God's peace? Who are those making themselves "a den of robbers", and what does Luke 19:41-46 say will happen to them?

In the "Conclusion": What should God's saints truly realize and enjoy? What can we now do even more through our union with "the good shepherd"?

In "Luke: The Perfect Man", by Ray Stedman: What was our Lord's favorite title for Himself, and what could the book of Luke be called? What quality of Christ's personality is constantly being set forth throughout this Gospel?

What is the key to this Gospel found in Luke 19:10, and how is the King James version a bit more accurate? What exactly has been "lost" in this passage of scripture? In reference to Psalm 8:3-4a, what is man, and how is he different from the animals? What are the three main divisions of the Gospel of Luke that can be seen in verse 10 of chapter 19?

Who is the author of this Gospel? Who is he writing to, and Who is he writing about (as seen in John 1:1 and Luke 1:2)? How is Luke similar to the Epistle to the Hebrews, and what clues can be found in the two that might help reveal the real writer of Hebrews?

How is the pattern of the tabernacle a picture of both ourselves and an outline to the Gospel of Luke? In Luke 23:44-45, why was the curtain torn in two? What is the "burning heart" referred to in Luke 24:32b? What is the "secret" revealed in Hebrews 10:19-20. According to Hebrews 10:21-24, how can we now have full assurance from within to be all we want to be, in terms of love and good works? What is the "strange mystery of the ages", summed up in verse 25?

In today's daily devotion, entitled "Is Jesus Still Here?": Read Romans 8:18-39 and relate it to the devotion story and events in your own life.
