Discussion 5: For the next four weeks, our focus will be on "The Parable Of The Talents". Included alongside the usual links to these sermons will be parallel sermons by Ray Stedman on "The Household", "The Ten Maidens", and "The Talents", as well as scripture links to the books of Luke and Acts. These are presented to give you a different perspective on the material we have been discussing, in order to help you better develop your own understanding. Additional links are also provided on the book "Classic Christianity" by Bob George, as next week we will begin reading and discussing the materials covered in it. Hopefully, this will give you an opportunity to acquire the book and enable you follow the ensuing discussions.
In this parable, as always, we must be careful not to rely too heavily on the Law for it's interpretation. It is very common to fall into the trap of thinking our abilities or efforts for the Kingdom will be rewarded upon His return. When, in reality, we have all been given the same power and authority by God. So, we must then learn to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him, in order to properly deliver His Word of Life to His children.
