Food Pantry

Our food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. and helps families in the Wharton and surrounding community. Depending on our supply, one to two bags of groceries are given out per family. During the holidays, we give out turkeys or hams (whichever is available).

Prayer Chain

"The Prayer Chain is alive and very active":  These words appear each week in the bulletin. We frequently reminisce about the true miracles we have witnessed as our prayers have been answered - always remembering that it is done in God's time. Each week we lift up those in our community who are in need of prayer. Prayer works, and at St. John's we have felt and continue to feel the healing presence of God in our midst.

Committees

Administrative Council (Ad Council or Church Council)

Administrative Council is the decision making body of the church. This committee is made up of the pastor, the chair of the Administrative Council, the Lay Leader, the chair of the Staff/Parish Relations Committee, the chair of the Financie Committee, the chair of the Trustees, the Church Treasurer, the Lay Members to the Annual Conference, the presidents of the United Methodist Men and the United Methodist Women, and a Youth Group representative. All items of church business, with the exception routine maintenance of the church property, must be approved through the Administrative Council

Staff / Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)

The Staff / Parish Relations Committee is the liason between the congregation and the church staff. Any concerns or compliments are communicated to one or more of the members on the committee to be communicated at the SPRC meeting. Issues of efficiency of ministry, counseling the church staff, nuturing staff development, job evaluations, spiritual renewal, and continuing education are discussed at the SPRC meeting. The SPRC also recommends and supports individuals who are interested in pursuing a call to ministry in The United Methodist Church.

Trustees

The Trustees are elected officials of the church who hold all church property and its maintenance in trust. There responsibility is to make sure that the property of the church is always prepared for ministry.

Worship Committee

Our Worship Committee is an open committee, which means anyone from the church is welcome to come and give their opinions about how we worship. The committee meets to discuss the details and planning of the worship services from month to month. Everything from how we take communion to replacing the offering envelopes in the pews is the responsibility of the Worship Committee.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee consists of the chair of the Finance Committee, the Finance Secretary, the church Treasurer, the pastor, the chair of Ad Council, a Trustee representative, the SPRC chair, and the Lay Leader. The Finance Committee receives and records all money given to the church. The Finance Committee reviews the previous year's budget and sets the current year's budget. The Finance Committee approves the payment of all church expenses and projects.

Memorial Fund Committee

The Memorial Fund Committee receives and records all money given to the church in memory or in honor of an individual. The Memorial Fund Committee presents how they would like the money to be spent to the Administrative Council for approval. All items purchased with the Memorial Fund money should be of lasting value to honor those for whom the money was given.

Committee on Lay Leadership (formerly Nominations)

The Committee on Lay Leadership throughout the year recogizes those within the congregation who have gifts and graces which may strengthen the committees of the church. The Committee on Lay Leadership nominates individuals for the committees of the church and makes their recommendations to the Administrative Council and the Charge Conference
